Pittsburgh Pirates Prospects at Rookie Level Earn All-Star Spots
S. Samek
The MILB rookie league all-star list is out, and many Pittsburgh Pirates prospects are on it. These are players playing in the Florida Complex League and Dominican Summer League.
The first player to earn a spot on the award list is Carlos Caro. He is a second baseman on the FCL team. In 42 games at the level, he hit .305 with two home runs and 17 RBI and a pair of triples. He was called up to Low-A recently on August 27th, 2024.
Jhonny Severnino was selected to the team as a DH. He is the 19th ranked prospect in the Pirates system. He hit .291 with 10 home runs and 41 RBI in 56 games at the FCL level. He is currently at Low-A Bradenton, where in 19 games he’s hitting .269 with three homers and 12 RBI.
Yordany De Los Santos is the next all-star selection. He is a utility player and the number 13th prospect in the Pirates system. He hit .344 with five home runs and 34 RBI in 57 games played. De Los Santos was also called up to Low-A Bradenton where in 18 games he’s hitting .156 with no home runs and four RBI.
Zander Mueth is a pitcher and 12th rated prospect in the Pirates top 30. He pitched in 13 games, starting 12 and went 6-1 with a 1.58 ERA in 51 1/3 innings pitched. He was named FLC pitcher of the year for his efforts. Mueth has also been promoted to Bradenton.
David Matoma made the team as a relief pitcher. He went 0-0 with a 0.82 ERA in 15 games pitched. He also went three for three in save chances.
Cesar Aquino made the DSL team as a starting pitcher. He went 6-1 with a 0.98 ERA in 12 games, while making six starts.
It’s nice to see top prospects shine even at the lower levels of the minor leagues. Good to see a couple more of the top 30 prospect list players succeeding as well. Can’t wait to see what this group of all-stars does in the future.
