Pitt Panthers Football 11/9/24 Against Virginia Preview
S. Samek
Pitt football is no longer unbeaten during the 2024 season. Can they rebound after a rough outing against a ranked ACC opponent?
SMU had Pitt’s number last week as the Panthers fell 48-25. Eli Holstein did start and completed 29 passes in 48 attempts for 248 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. He was also sacked three times. Desmond Reid ran for 49 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Kenny Johnson caught eight passes for 81 yards and a touchdown as the team’s leading receiver.
The 48 points allowed is the most this season. Kevin Jennings threw for 306 yards and two touchdowns for SMU. Brashard Smith rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns for the Mustangs.
The loss is Pitts first of the season and they fall to 0-1 against ranked teams and to 3-1 in the ACC. They also fell five spots from number 18 to number 23 in the polls.
Now they matchup this week against Virgina. Virgina enters play at 4-4 and 2-3 in the ACC. They lost their last game 41-14 to North Carolina. That loss puts the Cavaliers on a three–game losing streak coming into this matchup. They are also 0-1 against ranked teams.
The last time the two teams played was in 2022 with Pitt winning 37-7. Pitt leads the overall series between the two teams 10-4. Pitt is also 6-1 when hosting Virgina as they are for this contest.
I’m predicting Pitt wins 35-14. Take your pick for who wins by voting in the poll below. Kickoff for this game is 8 PM on Saturday November 9th,2024.
