It’s time for the 2024 edition of the Backyard Brawl! Let’s preview the game.

The Pitt Panthers come into the game at 2-0, while the West Virginia Moutaineers are 1-1.

Pitt won 28-27 over Cincinnati in their last game thanks to a 15-point fourth quarter comeback. Eli Holstein went 20-35 for 302 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Desmond Reid rushed 19 times for 148 yards. Konata Mumpfield caught five passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns.

West Virginia recovered from a week one loss to Penn State with a 49-14 thrashing of UAlbany. Garrett Greene went 17-23 for 236 yards and three scores. CJ Donaldson Jr. rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Kole Taylor caught three passes for 47 yards and a touchdown.

The last time the two-team met was 2023 and West Virginia won 17-6 at home. This year’s contest is at Pitt. Pitt holds the all-time series 62-41-3. Making this the 107th edition of the game. The two teams will then matchup in 2025 before taking a break in the rivalry until 2029.

I’m predicting a bit more scoring and West Virgina wins 21-17 in a close game.
