After a bye week last week Pitt returns to the football field. This week is the ACC opener vs Louisville. Let’s preview the action.
Pitt enters their first game of ACC play for the 2025 season at 2-1. The last time they played they lost to West Virginia 31-24 in overtime in the Backyard Brawl.
Louisville is 3-0 heading into this game, which is also their ACC opener. They defeated Bowling Green 40-17 in their last game on September 20th, 2025. This is also the first road game for the Cardinals in the 2025 season. Pitt is 2-0 at home to start the season.
The team teams last played in 2024 with Louisville winning 37-9. However, the last time Pitt host Louisville back in 2023 the Panthers upset the number 14 ranked Cardinals 38-21. Pitt also leads the all-time series 11-10.
One of the key matchups to watch will be Louisville’s defense against Pitt’s offense. Louisville has the number two ranked defense in the ACC with only 244.7 yards per game allowed. Pitt is ranked third in the ACC in scoring offense with 43. 3 points per game. Eli Holstein leads the league in passing efficiency and has completed 58 of 88 passes for 822 yards and nine touchdowns in three games to lead the Panthers offense. How will he stack up against this tough Cardinals defense?
I’m thinking it’s going to be a closer game. My prediction is Pitt wins 23-20.
Kickoff was announced as noon on Saturday September 27th, 2025. Be sure to tune in to see which team starts their ACC slate off with a win.
