The MLB draft class of 2025 is starting to sign. In fact, the Pittsburgh Pirates had a pretty significant signing on Tuesday July 22, 2025.

That’s the day that first-round pick Seth Hernandez signed a contract with the Pirates. The pitcher was selected sixth overall and signed for $7,250,000, which was under slot. However, it is still a record signing for a high school pitcher.

Hernandez joins a Pirates system that is stacked with pitching prospects. However, don’t be surprised if he becomes a top 30 prospect very soon. With a fastball graded at 70, a curveball and changeup both graded at 60 he certainly has the tools to become a top prospect. Overall, he was graded as a 60, which is pretty darn good and worth the hype as the best high school arm in the country and the 2025 Gatorade National player of the year.

No word yet, on which level he will report too, but it most likely will be the Florida Complex League to start. I can’t wait to see him make his pro debut.

Murf Gray, Jack Anker. Matt King have also signed, making Hernanzez the fourth signing for this class. The Gray, Anker and King signings should add some new infield bats to the system. They will be assigning all three to the Florida Complex League.

Exciting to see all the signings and hopefully more will come down the pipeline. Can’t wait to see all the new prospects in action.
