Pirates Open Season with Series Sweep

S. Samek

There always seems to be a sense of optimism on opening day. For the Pittsburgh Pirates that sense can go on a little longer. The Pirates are one of three teams in all of MLB that started the season out with a sweep. They sit at 4-0 and atop the National League Central.

Yes, it is only one series, but there was a lot to like from this series.

They went 2-0 in extra innings games. They swept a playoff team from last year in Miami. They scored runs. They finished the four-game series scoring 31 runs. The pitching was also pretty good including a strong MLB debut from Jared Jones. It feels like they put everything together this series and got the job done against a quality team. It’s a reassuring way to start the season.

Now the next series is against the Nationals. Should be a much easier series. Can the winning streak continue? I would be optimistic it can.
