It’s the heart of the free agency season. While it’s not a free agent related news, it is something that could affect free agency for the Pittsburgh Pirates going forward. Catcher Endy Rodriguez went down with a injury in winter ball and wil be out for the 2024 season.

Rodriguez was a highly touted prospect and saw his first taste of MLB action in 2023. However, he is one of four catchers on the roster, with Henry Davis, Jason Delay and Ali Sanchez.

It’s disappointing to see this top prospect injured and out for the year. It should be him and Davis leading the charge for the starting spot.

The question is though do the Pirates sign an additional fourth catcher to fill the spot? I think it isn’t needed. Let Davis play and see what he has. Give the experience to the young guy.
