Philip Keller, On the Challenge of Describing Heaven

“It is akin to someone like myself, who loves the high, alpine country above the timberline in the Rockies, attempting to describe its delights to a group of little children from the slums of a great city. Never having been exposed to anything as beautiful as an alpine lake of exquisite blue or the fragile perfection of a mountain meadow carpeted in wild flowers, how could they imagine what I was describing? After the first few minutes, they would be lost and bewildered. So, to a degree, it is with us in considering the heaven of spiritual realities. We are so engulfed and surrounded by the sordid conditions of our own existence on earth, we can scarcely imagine being set free into a fresh, dynamic dimension of living, totally divorced from all that we know here.” (Philip Keller, A Layman’s Look at the Lord’s Prayer)
