Number two ranked Penn State hosts Villanova this week. Let’s preview the action.
Penn State is ranked second in the country and is 2-0 after a 39-0 win over FIU in week two. Drew Allar went 19/33 passing for 200 yards and two touchdown passes. Kaytron Allen rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Allen also reached 3,000 career yards in the win. Nicholas Singleton rushed for a touchdown while also reaching 3,000 career yards rushing. They are the first Penn State teammates to have 3,000 rushing yards at the same time. Devonte Ross caught three passes for 61 yards and a score as well for a decent day for the offense.
The defense was good posting a shutout. Tony Rojas led the way with 10 tackles and Alonzo Ford had an interception.
Villanova is 1-0 with a win over Colgate 24-17. Quarterback Pat McQuaide threw for 299 yards on 18 of 28 passing. He threw one touchdown pass and rushed for another. Isaiah Ragland also had a rushing touchdown for Villanova. The Wildcats finished with 416 total yards in the victory.
The two teams meet for the 11th time this season with Penn State leading the series 6-3-1. The last time the two teams played was 2021 with Penn State winning 38-17.
I could see a similar score in this one maybe even worse. Penn State has a 99% chance of winning this game according to ESPN. I agree with ESPN and don’t see this being a challenge for the homestanding Nittany Lions. I predict Penn State wins to go to 3-0 heading into Big Ten conference play.
