One password to rule them all, a good charity and Harry Truman
Charity is important! My father and my brother both served in Military. I came across this fundraiser that combines priorities and my favorite hobby. Thank you to Krista Benedette for organizing it. I’m in. Send Krista an email to join up, it’s a great cause.

Harry Truman was president #33. He was a compromise candidate for vice president and an almost an accidental president after Roosevelt’s death 12 weeks into his fourth term. Truman’s stunning come-from-behind victory in the 1948 election showed how his personal qualities of integrity and straightforwardness were appreciated by ordinary Americans. His presidency was dominated by enormously controversial issues: he dropped the atomic bomb on Japan, established anti-Communism as the basis of American foreign policy, and sent U.S. troops into the Korean War. “Give ’em Hell Harry” was a popular slogan at the end of WWII and early in his first term Truman’s approval rating was over 80%. His rating dropped into the 30% range towards the end of his presidency as he confronted necessary social changes and the need for equality at home. Truman had a small plaque on his desk for a short while that said, “The buck stops here.” He was the mediocre Missourian who was always willing to dive into the details and work hard. Or in other words, an extraordinary individual.
Englunds –
I recently competed in the Annual Englunds Main Line Classic. Last year in the first round my partner Chris Kyper and I won our match but we had to withdraw due to an injury I suffered near the end of it. I was out for six months recovering and as a result I missed the entire Men’s tennis season last year. Chris and I entered Englunds again this year and we made it to the final. In the final, Chris and I started out by going down 0-5 in the first set before dropping it 3-6. In the second set, we jumped out to a 4-0 lead with yours truly serving, up 40-0. And, I got broke. And, I got so upset I hyperventilated. But so is life, err tennis. We won the match. Thank you partner. Our opponents are classy and super sportsmen who refused to take a default when we couldn’t play the final at the scheduled time. Thank you Ron & Bill, it was nice to win one against these guys for a change. I was uncharacteristically nervous and most thrilled to win.
Easy Killer, my 4.0 Mens team (our name means “whoa their big fella – it’s only tennis) is off to a good start at 5-0. This team has advanced to Districts and Sectionals in years past but it’s been 5 years since we did. We have a great group of guys and this team is fun. Kudos to our new singles ace Brian Hamilton. Brian came to us from a post I made in the Delaware Tennis Facebook group looking for players so we wouldn’t have to default courts that week. Brian is 3-0 so far for us dropping only 8 games in total. Keep it up!!
My 4.5 mens team is the Ramdomizers. We randomize our lineups and we play at West Chester University. WCU are the Rams and since we have about 1/2 of the WCU tennis team on our roster, obviously, we are the Ramdomizers. Yes, “obviously.” Sally Baird told be she’s declining to give me her opinion of our name. This team is full of characters and we are a strong team.
18+ Mixed sectionals are this weekend starting June 5th in Lancaster. The talent on these teams is about as strong as I can remember. It will be a good fight at 8.0 and 9.0. I can’t wait to see who advances to Nationals. Perhaps I’ll have a story or two to share after the adventure this weekend.
