On a Road Trip? Stop at Costco!

3 min read

I have (sort of) jokingly written before about how Costco would be a good place to live (Living at Costco: seasonal benefits)–or at least to host a dinner party (Why Costco would be a good place for a dinner party)–as well as how people have actually held wedding ceremonies in Costco (Wedding registries and ceremonies at Costco??). And I was completely serious about it being a good place for people who work in the area to go out to lunch (Out for lunch…at Costco?) Now this recent short article validates these ideas! In the article, they list three reasons that Costco is a  good place to stop on a road trip:

1. Cheap gas

I wrote in the past about the excellent gas prices at Costco (Got gas?). So, while on a road trip, it does seem like the perfect place to stop…fill up the tank and stop inside the store for benefits # 2 and 3!

2. Food

Whether looking for a quick meal or to load up on good quality snacks at good prices.

3. Bathrooms

Ah…the difficulties of finding bathrooms when on long trips. Costco won’t help for bathroom needs late at night or early in the morning, but during their business hours, the bathrooms are clean, easy to find, and convenient if you already want to stop at Costco for gas and/or snacks.

In addition to these reasons mentioned in the article, I came up with a few additional reasons that Costco would e a good place to stop on a road trip:

4. Stretch Legs

Anyone who has sat in a car for a long period of time knows the importance of being able to get out of the car and walk around a little. Costco is a great place for that because it is so big–one lap around the store is great for getting more blood flow to the legs after sitting in one place for a long period of time!

5. Air Conditioned

I tend to associate road trips with hot weather (maybe because in colder weather there is more chance for plans to get ruined based on snow/ice and even if plans do not get ruined, it is definitely more dangerous to drive in wintery conditions). Therefore, Costco is a great place to stop during warm weather trips, (especially if the car does not have air conditioning that works well!), as is always cold (and actually too cold in the salad/milk section) and therefore a nice place to cool off!

6. Different in different locations

Different Costco locations carry different items (food and general) as well as different food court items (Costco food courts around the country and the world). Therefore, for Costco enthusiasts (of which there are more than I thought!), it is a way to explore other Costco stores. Granted, Costco stops and comparisons  may not be the highlight of a road trip for most people! However, if needing a place to stop anyway, seeing what different store locations carry/serve may be a fun “extra”.

7. Samples

Need a quick snack while traveling? Now that samples are back (although who knows for how long?), it is a way to get a few bites without paying.

Have you stopped at Costco on a road trip?

Will you now?

Any other reasons that Costco would be a good place to stop on a road trip?
