OKOTÔ – Live @ Matéria Prima | TV Cultura (1990)
Okotô was a Brazilian rock band active during the late 1980s and early 1990s. They started out as a synth-pop post-punk band, before shifting their style to a blend of hard rock, alternative and punk influences. Okotô contributed to Brazil’s vibrant underground music scene. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1989, followed by Monstro in 1993.
The group was characterized by their raw energy and provocative lyrics. A notable member of Okotô was Cherry Taketani, who later became a prominent figure in the Brazilian metal and punk scenes. Cherry’s career included work with bands like Hellsakura and NervoChaos before her passing in 2017. Okotô’s music gained visibility through Brazilian platforms like MTV Brasil, but the band eventually disbanded, leaving behind a legacy as a part of Brazil’s alternative rock history.
