Oil Pastels on the Go! My Plein Air Set Up
Hi friends! Spring has officially arrived in Maine, and it makes me want to go out and paint! I usually use watercolors when painting outdoors, but I wanted to do something different, so I decided to bring my oil pastels.

In today’s video, I will show you what I pack for a day of oil pastel painting outdoors. I also want to remind you that there are still a couple of days to save 50% on my new class, Oil Pastels Made Easy, during the launch month special. Click the special discount link or use the coupon code OPLAUNCH50 if the discount doesn’t appear. Offer ends 4/30/25.
Supplies in my bag (affiliate links used)
Etcher Slate Bag (but any bag you have is fine)
Prismacolor pencils set of 36 or less
Sketchbook of your choosing, 9″x12″
Tracing paper, if the sketchbook doesn’t have glassine sheets
Small spray bottle of alcohol or alcohol wipes,
Silicone finger cots (Dollar Tree or Mod Podge)
Pencil sharpener
Tape
This kit worked out perfectly. I don’t know if I will keep all of those pencils in there, and I might add a small palette knife, but it worked great. I hope this inspires you to get out and paint this spring. If you want more oil pastel inspiration, I hope you will consider checking out my new class, Oil Pastels Made Easy! Happy crafting!
