Oddments: Several Items of News Concerning Friends of This Blog

Every so often (pretty rarely, in fact) it happens that a number of news items accrue that I’d love to tell the readers of this blog about, and so I bundle them together into their own succotash of a post. Lots of such items are to hand now, so here ye be:

I’m proud to report that my little squib on Frankenstein: The True Story was published on HiLowBrow.com today as part of their Scream Your Enthusiasm series. In addition to my piece, find similar appreciations by friends Michele Carlo,Kathy Biehl,Kelly Jean Fitzsimmons, Adam McGovern, and Heather Quinlan — the latter two of whom are the reason I ever got drawn into the HiLo-verse in the first place. You’ll find Heather’s name dropped throughout Travalanche, most recently in connection with her great podcast doc series about Tom Carvel. The exciting news about Heather is that she has just won a NYSCA grant for her new documentary film project American Graveyard. Congratulations, Heather! And again my new piece is here.

Frequent Travalanche contributor Lauren Milberger was in the recent episode of CNN’sOn the Edge show concerning the cultural battle beween Murphy Brown and Dan Quayle during the much simpler times that led to these complicated ones. As you’ll recall from last year’s Edgar Bergen chat on which I appeared, Milberger and her co-host Jesi Mullins create The Murphy Brown Podcast. You did great, ladies! (and find Milberger’s Travalanche articles here).

We were jazzed to recieve in the mails the inaugural issue of friend Jim R. Moore’s new periodical The Sideshow Gazette, and double jazzed to see that the first issue features a profile of our frequent collaborator Kita St. Cyr! Way to go, guys! Get your copy here.

Lastly, we were saddened to hear Kambri Crews‘ recent announcement that Q.E.D., the Astoria comedy club where I produced my series of shows last year, is shuttering for good in a few weeks. Especially bummed because I wanted to work there again, and I really loved that place! You should catch something there before they close. Their website is here.
