Notre Dame in ACC Football Title Game?

As I was watching ESPN the other day they were talking about how Notre Dame was close to clinching a spot in the ACC football championship game. I did double take as I’m like I thought they were an independent in football, while competing in the ACC in pretty much everything else?

Well turns out I missed that prior to the season they joined the league as a member and can now play for the ACC title. In fact they have clinched a spot in the title game with just two games left to play. However their second game has been canceled and they finish up the regular season on DEC. 12.

This is being done by the ACC to make sure Notre Dame, Clemson and Miami all have nine game conference schedules to compare against one another for the two spots in the game.

So far it looks like a Clemson win over Virginia Tech puts the Tigers in for a rematch against the Fighting Irish. Miami can remine alive for a birth if the Hokies upset the Tigers.

So I guess that explains why Notre Dame could be the ACC champion this year and possibly get a big resume boost toward a playoff spot.
