Director: Timo Tjahjanto
Starring: Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd
Suburban dad Hutch Mansell, a former lethal assassin, is pulled back into his violent past after thwarting a home invasion, setting off a chain of events
With Nobody’s true identity being revealed in ‘Nobody’, I was curious to see where they would go with a sequel with the surprise element gone. With Bob Odenkirk back as Hutch aka Nobody, they simply couldn’t go wrong. ‘Nobody 2’ is a fun, slick and entertaining action comedy.
On the façade Hutch is a loving family man, but he kills for a living – only bad guys, off course. He is ready to take a break and spend more time with his family, so they head off on holiday. Unfortunately, they choose the town of Plummerville, where all the cops are bad guys. Hutch is trying hard just to have fun with his family, but it is in his nature to take care of bad guys, and nature always wins.
Soon Hutch finds himself in deep trouble and he must fight to stay alive, and protect his family. The fight sequences are excellent – even gory – and despite all the brutality it surprisingly is a lot of fun. I suppose the lighthearted narration makes it more entertaining than it really ought to be. Bob Odenkirk is so good at what he does – and so handsome at doing it!
It was nice to see Christopher Lloyd back as Hutch’s Dad, David, and seeing them kick ass together was awesome. For future installments, I can actually see Hutch’s son, Brady, following in his footsteps (the same way Hutch followed in his Dad’s footsteps). Hutch’s wife, Becca, also underwent great character development and I can also picture her contributing much more in future installments.
‘Nobody 2’ didn’t do quite as well at the box office as ‘Nobody’, but still earned nearly $40 million on a $25 million budget.
Would I watch it again? Yes, I would, but I must admit I did enjoy ‘Nobody’ more, which had a better vengeance story.
