No One Will Save You (2023)

Director: Brian Duffield
Starring: Kaitlyn Dever, Elizabeth Kaluev, Zack Duhame
An exiled anxiety-ridden homebody must battle an alien who’s found its way into her home.
‘No One Will Save You’ is one of the most unusual films I’ve seen with regards to dialogue: there are only five spoken words in the entire film. No, this is not a film about a mute character. Nor is it a silent film (then again, even silent films have more dialogue!). (The first dialogue only comes at 1:09: “I’m sorry, Maude. I’m sorry.”)
Brynn (Kaitlyn Dever) is a young girl living alone in a big house on the outskirts of town. I was confused at first because her dress code screams 60’s, and even her telephone at home is very retro, yet there are modern cars in town. This is actually a modern day film, with Brynn still clinging to the old because she still mourns the death of her mother, and best friend Maude.
One night Brynn is awakened by noises in her home and discovers an alien in her home. A suspense-filled fight for survival ensues as the alien attacks her. When she flees to town for help, we notice the townsfolk not happy to see her, and immediately sense something wrong. At every turn, I expected someone to say something, but there were always just a grunt or a scoff, and never spoken dialogue. As strange as this sounds, it actually works very well.
More aliens soon follow, and Brynn’s ordeal has only just begun! Brynn truly is the only character in the film that matters. Kaitlyn Dever carries the film so incredibly well that one hardly notices there’s no dialogue.
‘No One Will Save You’ is unpredictable. This is a totally unique home invasion movie. The suspense is well crafted, and the alien effects are amazingly realistic. Yes, the aliens are stereotypical and look every bit like they’re always portrayed in comics and alien comedy films, so little thought went into their design. However, the alien towards the end is a frightening creature! The visual effects are absolutely stunning.
Throughout the film there are hints of something that happened in Brynn’s past, and this is revealed during the finale, which can be a bit confusing. In general, the film exceeded my expectations. It felt like a cross between ‘War of the Worlds’ and ‘A Quiet Place’.
Would I watch it again? Yes.
