No more food court for non-members!

Several years ago (wow, hard to believe!), I wrote a post about Costco perks of which even non-members can take advantage (For those without a Costco membership). One of these perks is the food court (which may also be a good place for people to eat lunch; Out for lunch…at Costco?). Well, those non-members better eat up in the next few weeks because, as of March 16, 2020, customers will be required to show their membership card before ordering from the food court.

Several articles have announced this news. However, apparently Costco declined to comment on it.

Why this change? According to the articles, Costco wants to reserve the limited space for members, wants the low prices of the food court items to remain as one of the “perks” of being a member because the membership fees is a main reason that Costco can charge such low prices at the food court.

The articles did point out that, although restricting the food court to members is making news because it seems to be a “change”, it has always been the policy. However, Costco did not enforce this policy.

What do you think of Costco becoming stricter on this policy?

Do you agree that only members should be able to beneft from the low prices at the food court?

Do you know non members who go to Costco just to eat at the food court?
