No- and Low-Sugar Snacks at Costco

Jun 8, 2025
7 min read

I mentioned in a recent post that the posts with snack suggestions are among the most popular (Let’s Talk Costco Snacks for Spring/Summer 2025). It seems that the ones with a “theme” (e.g., kid-friendly (Kid-Friendly Snacks at Costco); healthy (Nutritionist-Recommended Snacks to Buy at Costco)) are most helpful. Therefore, when I come across a few different recommendations within any theme, I combine them, provide some basic information, and add some comments. This current list is aimed at those attempting to limit their sugar intake. The first ten items contain no sugar and the second ten are low in sugar.

No Sugar Snacks

1. Country Archer Grass-Fed Beef Stick Minis Original

These high protein snacks are sold in packages of 28 0.5-ounce sticks. Apparently, they have a good balance of flavors (pepper; parsley; onion; nutmeg) and a good chewy texture.

Definitely not for me!

2. Tillamook Country Smoker Zero Sugar Beef Jerky

Another meat-based snack without sugar is this jerky. It is reported to have a firm texture and a strong, salty flavor (soy sauce; celery powder; garlic). It is sold in a two pack of 6-ounce bags.

Again, no thanks!

3. Calbee Harvest Snaps Baked Green Pea Snacks

This 20-ounce bag of peas is a popular snack for young kids. Made from peas, rice, and oil, and lightly coated in salt, these can be eaten as a healthy alternative to chips.

I have never tried these snacks but I know some young kids who love them. They do seem like a good idea.

4. Babybel Mini Snack Cheese

One of several cheese snacks without sugar are these mini cheese rounds. Packages contain 36 rounds. The cheese is similar to Edam cheese, with a soft texture and a relatively neutral, nutty flavor. They can be eaten alone or with crackers and are convenient for transporting.

I remember eating these cheeses as a kid. I don’t know if I actually liked it all that much but I remember liking peeling it from the red wax shell. These are definitely a good snack for people looking for a high protein food that is easy to pack. A kosher variety would be nice!

5. BelGioioso Fresh Mozzarella Snacking Cheese

A second cheese without sugar is this mozzarella. Each item contains 24 individually wrapped packages of three mozzarella balls. Apparently, they are creamy, with a tangy, salty flavor.

I like most varieties of mozzarella, whether the fresh balls or the shredded cheese. However, they taste very different and I find the former to be much more “gourmet” tasting. Again, if kosher, I would like to experiment with these as snacks or in salads.

6. Galbani Whole Milk Mozzarella String Cheese

Yet another sugar free cheese snack at Costco is this strong cheese. Packages contain 60 individually wrapped cheese sticks. This cheese has a creamy flavor, is easy to transport, and is certified kosher.

I didn’t know that this cheese is kosher but apparently it is certified by the OU. I have not had string cheese in a very long time but always liked it very much, for the taste and the “fun.” It always bothered me when people but off chunks instead of “stringing it” and I think that, if I were to eat it today, I’d still insist on eating it that way.

7. Cheez-Its

For those who enjoy cheese and crackers without the “work” of combining them, these crackers are a sugar-free option. Costco sells both large boxes (three pounds) and boxes of individually wrapped bags (45 1.5-ounce bags).

I have not eaten these crackers in decades but always liked them very much. It is hard to believe that, when I was growing up, it was a big deal when the product expanded from the Original to White Cheddar. Now there are so many options! I liked both, especially the burnt ones (I clearly was not alone as the company started producing “Extra Toasty” crackers several years ago). I was surprised to see that these crackers do not contain any sugar.

8. Whisps Parmesan Cheese Crisps

For an even healthier cheese cracker, Costco sells Whisps Parmesan Cheese Crisps. The snack is sold in a two-pack of 10.8-ounce bags. The product contains 100% cheese and is high in protein.

Not certified but they sound good.

9. Kirkland Signature Organic Greek Yogurt

For a sugar-free dairy snack, this plain yogurt is sold in 48-ounce tubs. It it nonfat and high in protein.

I have reviewed this yogurt (Product Review: Kirkland Organic Greek Yogurt) and continue to eat it multiple times each week. It is delicious on its own or mixed with granola (Product Review: Kirkland Ancient Grains granola) and/or fruit. (Obviously, additions are likely to add sugar).

10. Kirkland Signature Albacore Solid White Tuna in Water

Another sugar-free, high protein snack at Costco is this tuna. It is sold in packages of eight, 7-ounce cans.

I don’t tend to think of tuna as a snack, as I always it as the main component of a meal. However, I know that some people who focus a lot on protein eat it as a snack, either plain or paired with some crackers. (I can’t imagine eating it straight from the can but I have seen it). It is high quality tuna (Product Review: Kirkland Albacore tuna).

Low Sugar Snacks

1. Skinny Dipped Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

For those with sweet tooths (sweet teeth?) who prefer to avoid too much sugar, these candies are a good option. They receive positive reviews, with the recommendation to store them in the refrigerator or freezer to eat cold. The bags contain 30 individually wrapped cups. They are low in calories, fat, and sugar, and even contain some protein.

I very much want to try these candies. I love peanut butter cups and several years ago started eating Justin’s brand dark chocolate cups for a more natural alternative to Reese’s. The Skinny brand sounds even healthier and definitely worth buying.

2. Oikos Triple Zero Blended Greek Yogurt

Sold in boxes of 18 5.3-ounce cartons, these yogurts in three flavors (vanilla; mixed berry; strawberry) are sweetened with stevia. They are also high in protein.

I have written before about how I currently only eat plain yogurt, largely because I find flavored yogurt too sweet. I wouldn’t buy these cartons because the portion is so small and because I don’t like all of the flavors. However, as long as they are not too “fake tasting”, they are certainly a convenient snack.

3. Fairlife Nutrition Plan Protein Shake (Chocolate)

A low sugar beverage are these shakes. They are high in protein and sold in packages of 18 11.5-ounce bottles.

I have reviewed this chocolate drink (Product Review: Fairlife Nutrition Plan Chocolate Milk) and generally have a few each week. I find it hard to believe that the sugar content is so low, given how delicious it is and how much it tastes like regular chocolate milk, which tends to contain a lot of sugar. It also lacks the chalky taste of many of high protein beverages.

4. Kirkland Signature In-Shell Pistachios (Salted & Roasted)

An option for a low sugar snack are nuts. One option sold at Costco are pistachios. They are sold in a three pound bag. (Costco also sells them shelled in a 1.5 pound bag).

I have written before about how much I like pistachios. I stopped eating them for awhile after overdoing it a few times in college and having no desire to have more. However, I am back to enjoying them (but with more restraint). I have only had the shelled ones recently as part of the mixed nuts (Product Review: Kirkland Signature Extra Fancy Unsalted Mixed Nuts) but I actually much prefer in shell because they taste fresher.

5. Kirkland Signature Snacking Nuts

For those who want another variety of nut and/or more convenient packaging for transport, Costco sells a variety pack (peanuts; almonds; cashews). Boxes contain 30 individual 1.6 ounce bags of nuts (10 of each).

I have never bought these at Costco but I have been tempted. I very much enjoy all three varieties of nut and the packages are a good size for snacking. My hesitation is that I often find salted nuts too salty and tend to buy unsalted.

6. Go Raw Sprouted Organic Pumpkin Seeds with Sea Salt

An alternative to nuts are seeds. One low sugar option are pumpkin seeds, sold in a 22-ounce bag.

I like the idea of pumpkin seeds but not the seeds themselves because they are kind of “tough.” However, they might be good as part of a trail mix.

7. Kirkland Signature Organic Hard-Boiled Eggs

Another high protein, low sugar snack are hard boiled eggs. Costco sells them in a two pack, each containing 16 2-count individual packs. The cage free eggs come peeled for convenience.

Although I like hard boiled eggs, I have never bought these at Costco. I probably should because, although not difficult to make, it is definitely more convenient to buy them.

8. Kirkland Signature Organic Hummus

Although not really a snack in and of itself (although I suppose one *could* eat it plain), hummus is another option for (part of) a low sugar snack. Costco sells 20 individual 2.5-ounce hummus cups. They pair well with crackers, pretzels, or vegetables.

I like hummus and eat it with pretzels or vegetables. However, as convenient as these individual containers are, they just bother me (I have written before about this quirk of mine). For the people without my aversion to certain containers (probably everyone else!), they are a great product.

9. Kirkland Signature Chunky Guacamole

For those looking for a spicier spread than hummus, Costco also sells boxes of 16 2.5-ounce individual containers of guacamole. Like the hummus, this guacamole can be part of a snack when paired with crackers, pretzels, or vegetables.

Same as my thoughts on the hummus.

10. Snyder’s of Hanover Mini Pretzels

Yet another low sugar snack option are these pretzels that can be eaten plain or combined with a dip. Boxes contain 60 individual 0.9-ounce bags.

These snacks packs are certainly convenient for packing for lunch or a snack. In addition to hummus and guacamole, they pair well with peanut butter (Product Review:Kirkland organic creamy peanut butter) or almond butter (Product Review: Kirkland almond butter)/.

Do you pay attention to sugar content? Do any of these items surprise you? Other suggestions of products with either no or low sugar?
