Night of the Comet (1984)

Director: Thom Eberhardt
Starring: Catherine Mary Stewart, Kelli Maroney, Robert Beltran
A comet wipes out most of life on Earth, leaving two Valley Girls fighting against cannibal zombies and a sinister group of scientists.
I realize ‘Night of the Comet’ has a big cult following and I’m going to offend a lot of fans by saying this, but this is a terrible film!
Unfortunately I’m not desperate – or American – enough to enjoy this mindless sci-fi horror. From the incoherent script, to the bad effects and bad make-up, this is nothing more than a B-movie, and not a good one. This was not funny as a comedy, not interesting as a sci-fi, and definitely not a horror film. ‘Night of the Comet’ is littered with flaws from start to finish. None of the characters were compelling, or believable. Nothing here made sense. This film was all over the place and couldn’t decide what it wanted to be.
If the tagline didn’t mention zombies, I wouldn’t have noticed it. The so-called zombies are idiotic survivors who does absolutely nothing accept pretending – yes, I said pretending – to attack survivors. The ‘zombie’ acting was real, real bad.
At least the film had a good soundtrack. Other than that, I became so bored – and annoyed – with the film, I couldn’t wait for the credits to roll. I’m going to forget this in an instant – hopefully!!
Would I watch it again? Are you kiddin’??!!
