Night 3 of Advent – Proto-evangelium

Night 3

– As you can probably tell, our advent discussion(s) are somewhat un-traditional. In fact, I don’t even know what (or where) most people are reading on each of these nights that are actually following the Advent calendar. However, one of the goals with this LEDO Advent is to provide an alternative approach without changing the content.

So tonight we talked about the proto-evangelium. Proto-evangelium is not a word I even mentioned tonight to my 7-year old, 5-year old & 2-year old but it encompassed everything we discussed. The proto-evangelium is a word that means “first Gospel.” We looked at Genesis 3 – the story of the fall. Special attention was given to the disobedience of Adam & Eve, how the world changed as a result of their sin &what was needed to restore the perfect world. We talked most of the time about the word “reconciliation” &how Adam & Eve’s sin in the Garden created a need for reconciliation to God which man could not provide on his own. We gave attention to the curses God gave to Adam, Eve & the serpent &how they foreshadowed the coming of the Seed who would bring about that needed reconciliation man needs.

When we completed our discussion, we built a Garden of Eden &3 animals – a giraffe, snake & cow to commemorate our evening.
