New Pirates Top 30 Prospects named before start of 2025 Season

The new top 30 list of Pittsburgh Pirates prospects was announced today. Let’s take a look at the list and break it down a little.
Obviously, Paul Skenes is no longer on the list nor, is the top prospect in the organization. Bubba Chandler took that spot after Skenes call up. Chandler remains in the top spot in this top 30 list. He looks to arrive in Pittsburgh at some point during the 2025 season.
Konnor Griffin is the number two prospect. The 2024 first round ninth overall draft pick was graded as having the best power in the farm system at 60 as well as being tied for the best running and arm in the system with grades of 65 and 70.
Thomas Harrington was named the third best prospect. Harrington was graded as having the best control at 60 and best changeup at 55. Harrington could make his way to Pittsburgh this season.
Termarr Johnson was rated as the fourth best prospect. After making it to Double-A last season he could be very close to making it to Pittsburgh within the next couple of years.
Rounding out the top five is Nick Yorke. York spent most his time in the minors last season, but did appear in 11 games with the Pirates after coming over from the Boston Red Sox in a trade. He could very likely see a lot of time in the majors this season and lose his spot on the top 30 list. He was also graded as the best hitting in the system at a 55.
Braxton Ashcraft and Hunter Barco came in sixth and seventh on the list. Both are known for their slider with grades of 60.
Wyatt Sanford joins the top 30 at number eight. Sandford was a second-round pick in 2024 and should see official game action this season after only playing instructs after signing.
Pitchers Levi Sterling and Zander Mueth rounded out the top 10 at ranks nine and 10.
12 Pitchers and 18 position players make up the Pirates top 30 list. Though with half of those pitchers making the top 10 it’s clear the Pirates have lots of pitching throughout the system.
One player that moved up the most spot was Jhonny Severino. He moved up from rank 26 in 2024 to rank 12 in 2025. This comes after a full season back after an injury.
The player that fell the most spots was Lonnie White Jr. White Jr. was the 12th ranked prospect on the 2024 list but is unranked on the 2025 list. His 2024 was cut short with injuries, but he also struggled when on the field hitting just .167 at High-A.
I can’t wait to see how the top 30 perform during the season. I wonder if the list will stay constant during the season, or if we get a lot of movement. Time will tell, yet for now those are the top 30 names to watch out for in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system.
