NCAA Field of 64 (Mock)

Oct 31, 2019
2 min read

I just dropped a podcast that goes over the changes to the regional rankings on a national level and then goes into using that data to pick the field of 64. Below I’ll put down each of the teams that were selected but if you want to hear how the selection can go then give the podcast a listen.

It was interesting to see the Central and Great Lakes really dominate the at-large selections and I think based on their teams it is warranted. I was disappointed in the quality of teams the three New England teams played but I know that the National Selection Committee doesn’t look at that very much. Same can be said for Franklin & Marshall. These teams are playing the selection game and all the credit to them, but they are not the best teams to be getting the at-large bids.

In the podcast I mentioned I would touch on the West Region since I only took one of their teams. That gives the West only 5 teams total and obviously they will not be getting a regional if this happens. You could say well, give it to them and fly the South over but most of the West would have to fly anyway so from a cost point-of-view that doesn’t make sense. I would expect more of the same from last year with the west coast teams flying to the northwest and the Texas teams flying to the South Regional. As we know, the NCAA created a new unwritten rule that prevents teams from flying 3 time zones and landing in the northeast.

Please give the podcast a listen. It’s long but, well, long. Whether it’s entertaining is dependent on what kind of a nut you are about volleyball and selection.

In Reverse Order.
