Mystery Christmas Gift

Well, perhaps an early Martin Luther King’s Birthday present.  We just received it today via Amazon, with no indication from whom it came.  Did you send it?

sauce

I’m excited.  It’s an Alabama white sauce — basically a mixture of vinegar and mayonnaise with black and red pepper.  You see the black flecks — those are the black pepper.  Up close, you can see the red flecks of cayenne.  It also has some lemon and lime juices.  Just you want for chicken, but pretty darn good on pork as well.

The sauce is from Lillie’s Q, which has a place in the Bucktown area of Chicago — you’ll see me there on my next trip. –with outposts in the United Center.  They also have a place in God’s country, in Destin, Florida, a delightful fishing village during my youth that’s now overtaken by wealth.  I remember a family beach vacation when I was a teenager.   My father and I noticed an oyster bar below a bridge over an inlet.  We stopped by and each had a dozen oysters.  The waitress asked if we’d like some more, and my father said, open a bushel.

Homeric.

It took us a while, but we finished them.

Let me know if you sent the barbecue sauce.  I need to thank you.
