My top ten, All-time favorite Chinese gymnasts to watch

This was the hardest list, I have ever had to compile. Starting in the late 90’s through the 2000’s, China had some of the most amazing beam and bar workers the sport has ever seen. They don’t get enough credit for what they accomplished in the sport, IMO. The top 4 of this list are set in stone (for me) but 10-4, I changed around about a million times. I’m still not sure if I got it right. So here we go…..

10- Shang Chunsong- The Queen of being screwed over. All aspects of the gymnastics community had no proof she was underage but they thought it so they made sure she never got the medals she deserved. Starting with the 2016 Olympic AA bronze medal. I don’t even wanna talk about it. We love you Chang Shunsong. The best revenge is a happy life. I apologize for all the idiots out there that even today can’t admit they were wrong. You look exactly the same as you did 8 years ago.

9- Li Ya : Shut up Tim, Al and Elfi. Sadly, Li Ya could never quite put it all together for Worlds or the Olympics but I loved watching her anyways.

8– Yao Jinnan: Her fall in the AA at the 2011 Worlds was probably one of the most annoying things I have ever witnessed as a Gymnastics fan. She was so close to being the AA champion…. She competed injured at the 2012 Olympics and only made event finals on bars where she finished 4th (They should have given out 6 medals that day. A very likable ,Event finals with the exception of the 8th place finisher)

7- Yang Yun: The 2000 Olympics was a tragedy. Age issues aside, Yang Yun was a great gymnast with beautiful form and amazing dance ability. The only floor worker on my list. [Bars][Beam][Vault] Sadly the only beam I can find she falls.

6- Yang Yilin- She either deserved Gold or silver on bars that night in 2008. Sadly when it comes to gymnastics judges the best routine doesn’t always get the score they deserve. A totally underrated and underscored, AA gymnast. I don’t wanna talk about it:)

5- Zhang Nan- China most successful gymnast. She was anther gymnast that was beautiful to watch in person. Don’t listen to the Russian fanatics. Zhang deserved both her AA medals.

4– Zeng Siqi– Baby Siqi was one of my favorites from the start. You could just see the potential. She just never could put it together in the big time.

3- Fan Ye- This is the best routine I have ever seen performed in person. The 2003 Worlds team is probably my favorite Chinese team of all time. Fan Ye stood out from the crowd on beam and considering the amazing routines by the Chinese gymnasts she competed against in her time that says a lot. hey judges.

2- Ling Jie: I always loved her. Looking back I see the missed handstands on bars but I remember the first time I saw her and you can’t say that about a lot of gymnasts, she has stayed one of my favorite over time. If everyone’s Onodi looked like her’s, I wouldn’t hate the skill as much as I do…. Dear 2000 beam judges. YOU SUCK. ANYONE else does this routine they medal. One bobble and the rest was perfect.

1- Jiang Yuyuan : If you read this blog then you should have known who was number one. She’s probably the only gymnast that will ever receive a retirement blog from me. She was pure joy to watch and well, the link explains it all. My favorite gymnast to watch, the real, bronze floor medalist from the 2008 Olympics. P.S.- Sorry I had to use a video from NBC (Yuck)

Honorable mention… Li Shanshan.Sui Lu.Liu Xuan. Mo HuilanHe KexinLu Li (I found her bars overrated but loved her beam:) Tan Sixin

I feel like I missed someone I needed to add but I can’t think of who. This took 4.5 hours so that’s enough time. Next up, My favorite US gymnasts to watch.. Coming soon. Other idea’s… Top 10 favorite World teams… Top 10 favorite to watch, US gymnasts.. Romanian, Ukrainian.. Russian… Top ten favorite beam routines.. Top (??) vaults because that is my favorite event. Let me know your top 10 idea’s.
