My New Favorite Gouache? Review of Holbein 5-Color Mixing Set

Hi friends! Is it just me or does it seem like all of our art supplies keep getting bigger? Bigger sets, more colors, new colors, more options… It can be a bit overwhelming. Now, I take full responsibility for my supply stash. I review art supplies online, and I am very lucky to be able to do that as part of my job, but sometimes it becomes overwhelming to the point where I don’t know what I truly like anymore. And then, I found this gem. A 5-color gouache set that allows me to mix anything I want. I was hooked! Learn more about it in today’s video!

Today, I am reviewing the Holbein set of 5 mixing set of gouache. This set includes 15ml tubes of primary Magenta, Yellow, and Cyan, as well as white and black. Additionally, it comes with a mixing guide that will be helpful for beginners.

Pros:

• High quality

• Colors are designed to be fairly equal in strength so they mix easily.

• Pigment info on tubes

• Lightfast

• Open stock availability

Cons:

• None, if I had to pick something the magenta and yellow are not fully opaque but it doesn’t cause any issue when mixing or painting.

Bottom Line: I can’t find anything wrong with this set. You can’t beat it for the price, and the limited selection of colors will make you a better painter. Amazon has the best price, but you can also find it at Blick and other retailers. Happy crafting!
