My Inspiration for September 2025

What a beautiful month September was for me! The most beautiful in this year, so far… Half of the month I spent living my Mediterranean dreams, intoxicated by the beauty of the sea, enchanted by the sight of the full moon above the sea which made me think of Shelley’s lines ‘and the moonbeams kiss the sea, what are all these kissings worth if thou kiss not me?’, the pine trees, olive trees, cypress trees, craps and jelly fish, rocks and sunsets above the sea in the most thrilling colours…truly, nothing else in the world of dreams can compare to this earthly bliss! Then, David Hamilton’s dreamy 1970s photographs, in particular those with the seaside motif, the Pointilist paintings by Paul Signac, Henri-Edmond Cross and others, … then, as summer gave way to autumn tenderly I moved from the real Mediterranean dream to the wistful, romantic daydreams where music by Nick Cave and Tindersticks filled the air, the mood of scented candles, poems by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, colour woodcuts of flowers by Mabel Royds, paintings such as Wilhelm List’s ‘Embrace‘ and sculpture such as Sinding’s ‘Le Baisier‘, both of which I have written about. Shelley’s poem ‘Epypschidion’ has been my favourite this month, I really savoured it and felt connected to it, and so was Nick Cave’s song ‘The Ship Song’ and ‘Weeping Song’ which I discovered recently, thanks to a friend. Also, this month I started my series combining the themes of Kangra paintings on Love and modern dating and the series is still going on. Also, I would like to remind everybody that I am active on Instagram, very nice stuff there lately btw, and also that I opened my Patreon here.
“I don’t plan anything anymore. I just live my life. Sometimes the way I want to, sometimes the way I need to. It’s the little things that colour life. Little things are happiness. That’s why I love little things. And big bags. I carry them with me everywhere, because I owe myself a couple more walks between the expected and the unplanned.”
(Ivo Andrić)
“We two will rise, and sit, and walk together,Under the roof of blue Ionian weather,And wander in the meadows, or ascendThe mossy mountains, where the blue heavens bendWith lightest winds, to touch their paramour;Or linger, where the pebble-paven shore,Under the quick, faint kisses of the sea,Trembles and sparkles as with ecstasy—Possessing and possess’d by all that isWithin that calm circumference of bliss,And by each other, till to love and liveBe one…”
(Percy Bysshe Shelley, Epipsychidion)
