My Inspiration for March 2025

This March I very much enjoyed watching Desperate Housewives! I just love all the drama and dark secrets that lurks underneath the seemingly perfect exteriors, of both the characters and the houses. Which of the housewives is my favourite, well you can guess from the pictures bellow. Watching this show sparked my interest in the motif of suburbs in the visual arts. My wonderful discovery were two contemporary artists; the Spanish painter Alberto Ortega and the British painter Michael Cox who both offer their own unique visions of the suburbian life. Red dresses seemed to have caught my eye this month, as you can see in the many examples bellow. Other things I enjoyed this month were; Persephone, both in art and fashion, Kyle Maclachan looking delicious in Blue Velvet (1986), Gerda Wegener’s erotic illustrations, cherry blossoms in Japanese art – and in real life, Renoir’s fresh, green painting ‘The Party at Saint Cloud’, Odilon Redon’s flower paintings…
