My First Day at UWIC Football

It took a while (see blog post) but I had my first experience of being an analyst for UWIC Football.  The overall experience was pretty good.  Below are some of things I have learnt:

* Adapting to the outdoor elements such as the rain, cold, muddy, wind and sunshine.  Whilst I prepared for the cold and wet, I didn’t account for the sun reflecting off the ground and the strong winds affecting the video’s sound. * Knowing your battery power.  There’s no power sockets outside and you are reliant on your camcorder’s battery.  I missed the last 10 minutes of the match because of a dodgy battery and no spare.  It was a shame because they scored about a minute after the battery went dead. * Learning the operational definitions and doing the coding takes a while.  I know this already (see blog post) that it takes time to get good at anything. * Use of Numbers spreadsheet (I’m still not convinced – it’s all about Excel). * To make dashboards clearer and easier to understand. * Learning the different processes of meeting the coaches and the performance analysis session.
