My Father’s Day
I thought I would brag on my kids’ creativity in their Father’s Day gift-giving. You never quite know what your young kids may do for days like these.
Even yesterday at our church, we had a luncheon after our morning service and an “open mic” for anyone to share what they wanted about their Dad (e.g., special memories, stories, etc.). Ethan – my 3-year old – raised his hand to say something. Andrea and I both looked at each other with the same look, “Uh oh.” But then he surprised me with a very confident, “I like really like my Daddy” into the microphone in front of the entire church. Priceless!
Then later, I received these sheets of paper they had to fill out in Sunday School about their dad. Kind of bios. Here is what they said:
Jackson’s Bio of Me (the bold words are what Jackson wrote).
“He is 37 years old. His hair is black. His eyes are green. He likes to wear a Shockers shirt. His favorite food is hamburgers. His favorite color is black. His favorite dessert is brownies. His favorite game to play is Super Mario Brothers. His favorite sport to watch is basketball. He is smart because he reads a lot. He is funny when he is funny. He is the best in our family at video games. He always tells me to not scream when playing video games. It makes him happy when I trip on a ball on purpose. He would like to take a trip to Oklahoma. At my job, my Dad prints and copies paper and works on a computer. When my Dad is not at work, he likes to play games. My Dad is special because he is funny and kind.”
Josiah’s Bio of Me (the bold words are what Jackson wrote).
“He is 37 years old. His hair is black. His eyes are green. He likes to wear a clothes. His favorite food is pizza. His favorite color is every color. His favorite dessert is every dessert. His favorite game to play is any video game. His favorite sport to watch is all sports. He is smart because he is smart. He is funny he talks. He is the best in our family at video games. He always tells me to listen. It makes him happy when I don’t disobey him. He would like to take a trip to Worlds of Fun. At my job, my Dad preaches. When my Dad is not at work, he likes to play. My Dad is special because I love him.”
Then the highlight of it all was a picture they made with a little help from Annie. Before they gave me this picture, Jackson read Psalm 1 to me and they shared some kinds words about that passage and my life. The picture if a tree with Psalm 1 written out my Jackson. The leaves are my kids’ handprints.

My kids are too cool. They must get that from their Mom or something.
