Mundy the Pirate at the Key West Artisan Market
The Key West Artisan Market is held every Sunday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at 1801 White Street in the parking lot by Indigenous Park, near Higgs Beach. Do not miss it. There’s always plenty of parking nearby, and it was an easy walk from much of the town, including our rental in Atlantis House, and from Sue and David’s house. Nancy was under the weather and slept in while the rest of us went to check the offerings.
The Artist Market offers all sorts of vendors, including crafts like these candles.

The design and craftsmanship were remarkable enough, but the candles have the aroma of whatever they’re mimicking. Even the bowl of Fruit Loops cereal smelled like … milk and Fruit Loops.
The market also offered beautiful fruits and vegetables,

cut and prepared foods of various types,

and food booths, including Mundy the Pirate’s. Mundy’s offers a wealth of fresh seafood.

The offerings were very tempting, although Mundy’s motto, while certainly piratical, has a certain ambiguity that seemed incongruous for a food truck.

As I say, the food looked good. I walked on but soon walked back to try to get a photo of their French fries. They looked fabulous, but none were in sight, so I assuaged my disappointment with some shrimp ceviche.

I enjoyed the ceviche quite a bit. The local shrimp were very fresh, an assurance that I’d live to tell the tale, and the lime, onion, peppers, and parsley had a wonderful fresh tang. I’d get this again.
Before we left the area, we took a stroll through the adjacent Key West Wildlife Center, which occupies a corner of the Indigenous Park. The Center is a bird sanctuary and cares for injured birds. It’s full of tropical plants, among which Michael spotted a small iguana, and Lily, who has sharp eyes, was the first to see a big ‘un.

It was fine morning, and I highly recommend the Market, the Park, and Mundy the Pirate’s. Definitely try the seafood, and if you get a chance, some French fries, and let me know what you think.
