Mt. Lebanon Senior Kate Borza Shares Commitment to Swarthmore Softball

Kate Borza is off to Swarthmore College after her time at Mt. Lebanon, a Division III school in the Centennial Conference. With around a nine percent acceptance rate, you have to be quite the brain to get in. In fact, one of the things she’s most excited for when it comes to Swarthmore is the Scott Arboretum and all the different plant life that call it home.
There’s no question she’s got the brain and desire to learn as she intends to not just play softball in one of the best Division III conferences in the nation, but also major in environmental engineering while doing so. Some people have all the luck, right?
I always say it’s not luck if it’s consistent, and she surely possesses that. She’s been playing softball every year since the age of nine, playing with travel programs such as Thunder Elite and Home Fastpitch. The coaches and players from these organizations, in addition to her high school softball teammates, have become like family to her.
“I have gathered such a support team from this sport. I feel that every team I’m on becomes my family and I couldn’t be more grateful. I love seeing them succeed. It makes me so proud.”

So far in her high school and club career, she’s become a 2020 Softball Factory National Tournament champion, a WPIAL First-Team All-Section in 2022, and a Post-Gazette All-Section team member.
She’s also helped the Lady Devils make school history in a win against Canon McMillan. With their victory over the Lady Macs, they moved into first place in their section for the first time in around 50 years. Accompanying this top memory is an extra inning victory over Bethel Park as well as having the chance to play in and visit Nashville during her travel career.
With her senior year of softball approaching, she hopes her and the Lady Devils can continue to make Mt. Lebanon a feared squad in both their section and in the WPIAL. Best of luck as you continue senior year, Kate! Thank you for the chance to share your commitment and time in softball to date 🥎🪴
