Movies that don’t have a sequel, but totally could!
10. Rat Race (2001). For those of you who love a good comedy that really makes you belly laugh, it’d be a crying shame if you haven’t seen this one yet. It’s over a decade old, but you could still get much of the same cast back together as well as other more recent comedic actors (there are so many good ones to choose from) and have them go on the same race, but with some different twists.
9. Better Off Dead (1985).
This is an 80’s classic starring John Cusack and Curtis Armstrong (‘Booger’ from Revenge of the Nerds). I think this sequel could be done in one of two ways: 1) as a kind of class reunion where adults are at a ski resort… and just kinda go from there, or 2) as a teen movie–which is what the original was–and have some of the cast from the original play the parents of the main characters.
8. Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009). Yep, I do love this movie. I think it’s one of Wes Anderson’s absolute best, and with the main characters being forest animals who have a society just like us, it would be easy to come up with new stories for Mr. Fox and his friends.
7. The Adventures of Tintin (2011).
I guess the original wasn’t a huge hit, but it was such a good adventure movie, especially on the big screen. And the source material has tons of stories to draw from.
6. Bridesmaids (2011). Easy. Plan another wedding and bring the band back together. I know they can hit it out of the park again.
5. History of the World, Part I (1981). It’s actually part of the joke of the movie to put “part I” in the title: movies at that point didn’t have a part one, only parts 2, 3, and on. Also, they go from cavemen to the French Revolution, so they pretty much spanned as far as anyone could. Still, it would be amazing to have Mel Brooks make a sequel. I’ve actually heard a rumor that he’s considering it.

4. The Nice Guys (2016). Gosling and Crowe proved that buddy cop comedies aren’t a thing of the past yet, and their chemistry was so good in this one that I would definitely buy a ticket for a sequel.
3. District 9 (2009). If you have any interest in alien movies at all, this one was so unique and an instant classic (well, to me anyway). I want to see what happens to Wikus!
2. Forget Paris (1995). In my mind, this movie is one of the greatest RomComs of all time, even being able to compete with When Harry Met Sally. Now that they’re older, I think there could be a pretty funny comedy titled Remember Paris with Billy Crystal and Debra Winger telling a story of their daughter and son-in-law’s relationship; pretty much the same structure as the original movie. You would need new main characters, and again, there are so many funny actors out there right now. Maybe Tina Fey and Sacha Baron Cohen?
1. Winter On Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom (2015). It’s a sad yet inspirational documentary that really left an impression on me. It covers the events when students in Ukraine protested against their government giving in to Russia in 2013/2014. So, obviously, I’m hoping that Ukraine ends up winning this current war and that a similar documentary gets to be made.
My good movie buddy Glen Monroe came up with this list idea and I had a lot of fun finding movies to fit the category. And out of the nominees this week, the only one without a sequel is Con Air, and apparently there is a following of fans asking for one. So, with that said…
Congratulations Con Air. This is your week.
And the Oscar goes to…
Best Actress:
Lauren Holly as Mary Samsonite in Dumb and Dumber
Best Actor: Mike Myers as Wayne Campbell in Wayne’s World
Best Quote: “Make a move and the bunny gets it.” – John Malcovich as Cyrus the Virus
I would also like to see the following movies remade:
5. The Island (2005)The story was so good and the movie didn’t do it justice.
4. The Crucible(1996)It’s hard to believe this stuff really happened in history. It’s a great movie, and I don’t think it would be hurt by a sequel at all.
3. All of Me (1984)Another great story and perfect for a comedic actor to ham it up.
2. Lean on Me (1989)
1. The ‘Burbs (1989)This one just has to be made, don’t you think?
