Mother’s Day, Coaching, and a Not the NYT VB XWord

When I created the crossword this time, I forgot it was Mother’s Day.  For me, it is not a real holiday, never liked Father’s Day either.  For most holidays like them, they seem designed to force purchases/gifts for people. no different than something like Valentine’s Day.  Ultimately, shouldn’t we be nice and honor our parents on a daily basis?  My mom has been gone nearly a decade now–I still try and act as she taught.  She was a role-model for the ages.

When we coach, we should remember moms.  Do you coach like she taught you to behave?  …watch football and basketball coaches on the sidelines–is that behavior that would make Mom proud?  Are you showing true love for your players, are you accepting of mistakes and willing to help them get past those errors?   Be good, be kind, be patient.  That is how you teach, that is how you should coach.
