Director: Alan Rudolph

Starring: Demi Moore, Glenne Headly, Bruce Willis, Harvey Keitel

Two detectives interrogate a hairdresser on two homicides she may or may not have been involved in.

Cynthia (Demi Moore) voluntarily goes to the police with information regarding the James Urbanski murder case. This is the story as told by her.

Trouble between James (Bruce Willis) and Joyce (Glenne Headly) already started at their wedding ceremony. They clearly were a mismatched couple from the beginning. And it would only get much worse after the marriage, with the two constantly fighting and Joyce jokingly saying she will kill James one day.

When James is killed, this sets in motion a series of events as Cynthia stands by Joyce in getting rid of the evidence. Only, the more lies the more confusing the story gets, and it takes more lies to cover up everything. To make matters worse, we’re not entirely sure who does most of the lying. Harvey Keitel stars as detective John Woods, who is trying to make sense of it all and put the pieces of the puzzle together.

I found the premise captivating and I enjoyed the actors in their respective roles. The film hits us with reveal upon reveal, and this kept me glued to the screen. Being a murder mystery, saying too much will result in spoilers, which I’m not going to do. I really enjoyed this.

‘Mortal Thoughts’ earned just shy of $19 million on a budget of $7 million. Glenne Headly received an award nomination for Best Supporting Actress while Harvey Keitel won for Best Supporting Actor.

Would I watch it again? Yes.
