Director: Barry Jenkins

Starring: Mahershala Ali, Naomie Harris, Trevante Rhodes |

A chronicle of the childhood, adolescence and burgeoning adulthood of a young, African-American, gay man growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami.

I so desperately wanted to like this film, but there’s nothing here to like. It is completely and utterly BORING! Absolutely nothing happened in this movie. No plot. No character development. No interesting photography (instead, it was shaky and blurry at times). No mention-able cinematography. The film moved at a snail’s pace – and that’s euphemistically speaking! All the characters were bland. The plot was incredibly thin.

THISfilm received 500 nominations and won 223????? Can someone please explain all these awards for a dull film like this?? Would this have been as well received if it was an all-white cast? No, I’m not a racist at all; I’m just wondering since there’s nothing special about this film to justify the amount of award nominations. This is one of the most tedious films I’ve seen in a long time, and another reason why I don’t really like gay-themed films. They are either annoying or terribly boring. ‘Moonlight’ is both. Why did Mahershala Ali won 50 awards for his role in this film?? He was only in the film during the first quarter and had a very non-demanding role. All he did was talk. Talk-talk-talk-talk. That’s it!! He did NOTHING else…???!!!

Yawn. Yawn. Ya-a-a-a-awn!
