Monday Musings
Consider this a filler post but I wanted to mention a couple of things.
First, this should be a busy week with conferences releasing their volleyball previews. I just checked the AVCA website and their DIII rankings will drop later today! I have heard back from all but one of the conferences and we should have something Tuesday through Thursday. One conference said they were unsure when their preview would drop. The one conference I haven’t heard back from (ASC) is usually pretty good at releasing their previews so I expect we may get a double-up preview day this week. (Or, maybe they can hold off until Friday and we’ll make this a clean sweep for the week.)
Update: As I wrote this, the ASC came back and said their preview will be Friday!
Second, I was looking at cleaning up some website stuff. For those on the computer, there is a “Past Commentaries” section on the left. You can get there on all other platforms through a dropdown (“Helpful Links”). I started clicking the article links trying to remember what I wrote about and seeing what should be removed. What I came away with from the first few is that I write some good stuff. (My arm didn’t even hurt with that pat on the back.)
So…(I read somewhere you should never start a sentence with “so”)…So, I wanted to summarize a few of them for the newer readers so they could make an informed decision on whether they needed to look them over.
So…(Yeah, now I’m just being funny)…
This was a review of a presentation made by the NCAA on selection. If you follow a team that has NCAA Tournament aspirations then it’s something you probably want to read.
I wish I had updated this earlier in the year. I’m not sure how many high school parents I get but it basically shows the academic aid provided by the Region X schools. Bottom line, academics may be the single greatest skill a non-elite volleyball player can possess when looking at reducing their college bill. DIII is often dismissed because they don’t offer athletic aid but this article will show you that good academic high school students should really be considering DIII programs.
Should the NCAA use metrics to augment their selection criteria? Should we care that the selection criteria continues to favor regions that don’t produce NCAA champions?
Those are just the first three on the list, although I probably should add some others that I’ve written since then. So, (whoops) instead of removing links I may be adding more. I’m just that good, I guess. (May need to switch arms on that back patting.)
Just saw the AVCA dropped their DII rankings. I better end this article so I can keep hitting refresh for the new DIII rankings. Can’t wait. They are going to be so bad. There just isn’t a way they can be good.
Update – I got bored refreshing.
I just wanted to remind my old readers and inform my new readers that this will be the one-stop shop for scores and links to Region X matches. I attempt to put the Video Stream links and the Live Stats links for each Region X match up that day. Once the match is over, I’ll update the post with the box score links. I also will have observations prior to the matches being played. If I’m able, I’ll also do comments during the day for the matches I’m watching.
