MLB.com posted a poll for which player would be rookie of the year. The results of the poll were quite interesting and varied. Let’s break down the results a bit further.

In the American League Wyatt Langford of the Rangers got the most votes. Langford made the Rangers out of big-league camp and was the number six overall prospect at the time. Through 43 at bats as of this writing, he is hitting .256 with zero home runs and six RBI.

Even Carter, also of the Rangers was named as an early rookie of the year candidate. He did play a role in the Rangers run to the World Series last year, even though he hasn’t been off to the best start this season.

Getting the third most votes in the American League was Jackson Holliday. Without even playing a major league game he is getting votes. However it didn’t take long to see him make it to the majors as he just got called up.

Colt Keith of the Tigers and Colton Cowser of the Orioles rounded out the top five in the American League.

In the National League Jackson Chourio was the number one vote getter. Chourio made Brewers out of the gate and is performing pretty well. He’s nine for 32 with two home runs so far.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto got the second most votes. Yamamoto did have a rough first outing but has turned it around in his two most recent starts.

In third place was Shota Imanaga of the Cubs. He has been pitching very well so far with 10 scoreless innings pitched.

Fourth place was Jung Hoo Lee. He is only hitting .205, which is a bit low for the former Korean Baseball League star. However, he did hit his first major league home run.

The last person on the National League this is Paul Skenes. Skenes has been pitching well at Triple-A Indianapolis with six scoreless innings this season. He is also hitting triple digits on the regular averaging 100 MPH with the Ol number one. While the rotation seems to be outperforming expectations to start the season in Pittsburgh the fans are eagerly awaiting his call up to further boost the rotation.

Who is your pick for top rookie so far? Who could be added to the next list?
