Mission: Impossible 6 – Fallout (2018)

Director: Christopher McQuarrie
Starring: Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames
Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, race against time after a mission gone wrong.
I’m not a ‘Mission: Impossible’ fan, but having enjoyed ‘Mission: Impossible 5 – Rogue Nation’, here I am watching ‘Mission: Impossible 6 – Fallout’. I must say – unlike ‘The Fast and the Furious’ franchise – the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise is definitely getting better. I enjoyed this installment as well.
While ‘Fallout’ is more confusing than ‘Rogue Nation’, it was entertaining enough to keep me captivated, and the third act was absolutely wonderful.
Some of the cast members of ‘Rogue Nation’ return for this installment, and for the first time the film follows on its predecessor. ‘Fallout’ follows on the events of ‘Rogue Nation’ – two years later. In ‘Rogue Nation’, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) captured the head of the Syndicate, Solomon Lane. The remnants of the Syndicate are now known as The Apostles, who stole three plutonium cores from Russia.
Ethan’s mission is to prevent the Apostles from acquiring plutonium. Together with his faithful friends Benji (Simon Pegg) and Luther (Ving Rhames), they embark on a mission to Berlin to recover the plutonium cores. When the mission fails, CIA Director Erika Sloane (Angela Bassett) appoints agent Walker (Henry Cavill) to accompany Ethan on his next mission.
Ilse Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) returns for another adventure with Ethan. There are a host of new characters; several of them having twist character developments. The first two acts does get a bit complicated and confusing with all the information and if you haven’t seen ‘Rogue Nation’, you might be a bit lost with some of the events in ‘Fallout’.
Regardless, ‘Fallout’ is a good movie with incredible stunt choreography and action sequences. Tom Cruise is once again doing his own (very dangerous) stunts – similar to Buster Keaton back in the early 20th Century. (If you haven’t seen any of Buster Keaton’s movies yet, you are seriously missing out on some of the industry’s finest stunts ever – especially for its time!).
As I mentioned earlier, the third act is by far the best. The moment they arrive at a medical camp in Kashmir, the film treats us to non-stop action and entertainment, danger and death-defying stunts. This was actually really cool! At least now there are two films in the franchise I enjoy.
‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ was once again a big box office hit, earning nearly $792 million on a budget of $178 million, making it the highest grossing film in the series. ‘Fallout’ received 66 award nominations, winning 25, making it the most awarded film in the series.
Would I watch it again? Possibly.
