Minneapolis, Day 3
And here is Day 3, my friends.
We rose early, got our 18 plates of breakfast food, and checked out of the hotel. We didn’t go to the mall, but we did hit up IKEA before leaving. Just some small stuff, organization stuff and nursery stuff, also some glassware and a toy-car rug for the Pete man.
Also I want to take a second to say, it is really weird to be blogging this because Linus is not there yet. I mean, technically yadda-yadda I guess he was there, but he’s not really There, you know what I mean. Weird! Funny how in 8 months it came already feel strange to think back to only having one kid. ALL THE FREE TIME, YOU GUYS, OMG.
Anyway! Sorry, back to things. I did not take any photos in IKEA, because I did that last time, and frankly: no one cares. IKEA is IKEA like Target is Target, no one really needs to see that. We bought some cheap junk, the end 😉
After our shopping trip, we headed downtown, to experience the Sculpture Garden at Walker Art Center.

Ummmm yeah guess what: Walker Art Center was closed for Memorial Day. Duh, Muellers. However! The Sculpture Garden was still free for the walking, and to boot: their sculpture putt-putt course was also open. SCORE. We bought a few rounds and hit some balls.

So there were 2 different courses, we chose the easier one, but both looked super-cool. I would totally do this again, even though it was a little pricey (the irony: each round of mini golf included an admission to the art museum. Which didn’t exactly work for us considering the museum was closed that day, but hey: any other day of the year, that totally works in your favor). It was a total blast. Each ‘hole’ was designed by a different invited artist and they were pretty imaginative.

The optical illusion Hole (I totally did a bad job of lining the guys up, sorry)…

After our holes of mini-golf, we headed off to see the Sculpture Garden. AKA, home of the giant cherry on a spoon.

Pete wanted a photo where he was pretending to eat it so bad, you guys, but every attempt was a fail. Maybe when you are older and take direction better, my dear.

I love this sculpture garden, even though I have only been there once before. When my sister Aimee lived in Minneapolis she and I went one time, and it was seriously one of my favorite times I’ve ever had. We played and goofed with all the sculptures and took tons of photos. I planned to dig them out to sprinkle into this post, but haven’t unearthed them all yet. Will have to do a special post just for that some time 🙂

And then we were worn out and ready for a late lunch.
Scott found a spot called Common Roots Cafe that was supposed to be pretty stellar (and also kid friendly), so off we went.

Total hipster brunchy dive. Totally delish so I won’t judge. Plus they were Happy Hipsters, which always makes things more bearable. I got the veggie burger and I am still dreaming of that delicious thing. Pete, because he was Over Real Food at that point, got a smoothie and a bagel and was happy as a clam. We actually spent a bit of time here just chilling and enjoying the atmosphere and relaxing before that long drive home. Which was sadly, the next step.

After that we let Pete run around the neighborhood to run off some of his energy, then eventually broke the news to him that we were going to have to go home. He was devastated. Admittedly, so were we (not just because Minneapolis is cool but also: LOOOOOONG DRIIIIIVE, NOOOOOOOO).

By some sort of luck, even though there was a lot of rain that weekend, we missed most of it while outdoors. Which was pretty darn awesome. So anyway, it was a rainy dreary drive back to Madison, and that about sums things up.

Thanks for the good time, Minneapolis. We”ll see you again soon.
Also Pete was so in love with his cheapo IKEA rug that he would sneak out of bed after we tucked him in, and would sleep on the thing. That is love, people. Pure love.

Okay that’s the end for real. Next time we’re blogging our latest epic Kansas trip, stay tuned…
