Minneapolis 2019, Day 3
Last day, and the weather was slop. Rain rain rain, chilly chilly chilly. Womp, womp.
I mean, I checked the weather up until the day we left for Minneapolis, and the forecast was ever-changing there was lots and lots of rain predicted, but instead we had two great days of sun and happiness. So I mean hey? We got two good days.
But then again I WAS ROBBED WHY RAIN WHY RUIN THE HOLIDAY WHYYYYYYY.
Anyway. It was a bummer but at least we had the donuts I bought the day before in anticipation of a Memorial Day where there were no donut spots nearby that were open so HEY ENJOY THIS SHIZZ, I GOT THIS WHOLE BOX FOR A STEAL.
Scott and I ate a few minis and the kids went nuts and we wrapped up a few for the road, it was all good. While we packed up and wiped down counters, the kids chilled on the 3-season porch.
Eventually we were satisfied that all the rooms were packed and cleared, Scott packed the car in a downpour (poor darling), and we ushered the kiddos out to the car. Good bye, Polish Catholic Church. Good bye, sweet neighborhood. May we visit again sooner rather than later.
My children, when asked where we should spend our last morning, started chanting for Can Can Wonderland. So back we went, except this time we charged up a few cards all Chucky-Cheese style, and off we went to play in the arcade areas.
Scott and I split up, he took Pete and I ran around chasing Linus. I have to say, the nostalgia of this place is unparalleled. It has a hall of old 80s/90s games, which we hit up first.
Scott caught at his old passion, Galaga. AIN’T NEVER GONNA GIVE IT UP.
Eventually Moose and I made our way to the Boardwalk, which is filled with a bunch of old 60s-70s games. He spent a lot of time at this shooter game, which shot actual metal pellets. SO SATISFYING.
Pete even joined us after some time.
And then? We made our way to the small area where they have the oldest arcade games. I’m not sure of the time period (1950s?) but they were a definite trip. Linus was OBSESSED. Then Pete and Scott wandered over as well. We spent a good deal of time there.
Moose tried out all the games (maybe ten total?) and this one was his favorite, we played it several times. Most of the games were shooter-type ones.
Then eventually our card times expired, so we made our way back to the front.
Pete and I dropped a few coins in a photo booth before we left and I have to say: worth it.
After Can-Can we knew our time left to explore Minneapolis was short, so we made the most of it. First, a stop to stock up on local beer. And I saw this funny bumper sticker on a car.
Then: off to find the quintessential Minneapolis meal. And that would be: Juicy Lucys and tots. So we headed to the Original, the first Blue Door Pub. Parking was hard to find (downpour didn’t help), and the building was TINY. So we had to wait a wee bit for a table. But we got a nice lovely booth, and settled in for some good grub.
So worth it, guys. Burgers were top notch, tots were fried to perfection, and the kids were happy.
After lunch it was time to head home, but I talked Scott into driving to a nearby nursery so I could maybe possibly get a new plant baby before we headed home. As it turned out: parking was a nightmare in that neighborhood, we argued about his driving, and so in a huff I asked him to pull over to wait and I ended up rage-walking for two blocks in a downpour to the plant shop. And I ended up buying TWO plants and I have no regrets because in times of anger when you are soaked to the skin: you do what you want, eff everyone.
Anyway no regrets I love my big beautiful swiss-cheese plant AND I love my raindrop pep.
I walked back to the car two blocks in the driving rain and I was dripping wet and soaked even 3 hours into our drive but did I care? Nope. I just chilled with my new baes in my lap and admired them.
It truly did pour rain on us most of the drive back. Such a bummer.
About 45 minutes from home the rain finally slowed down and I got a few pictures and that’s about it, friends.
I hope y’all had a good Memorial Day weekend as well, and more to come soon. Much love…
