The Double-A level of minor league baseball is set to start the playoffs today. Let’s preview the matchups and make predictions for the winners of each series.
Texas League
Springfield Cardinals vs Tulsa Drillers
The Cardinals won both halves in the North division. Tulsa earned a playoff spot by finishing in second place. It took the Drillers till the final day of the regular season to clinch the playoff spot.
My prediction Springfield over Tulsa.
Midland Rockhounds vs Amarillo Sod Poodles
Midland won the first half while Amarillo won the second half in the South division. Midland did not have strong second half record finishing 12 games behind Amarillo in the standings.
My prediction is Amarillo over Midland.
Southern League
Chattanooga Lookouts vs Birmingham Barons
The Lookouts won the first half, while the Barons won the second half in the North division. Birmingham is also the defending league champion.
My prediction is Birmingham over Chattanooga.
Biloxi Shuckers vs Montgomery Biscuits
Biloxi won the first half and Montgomery won the second half in the South division. Montgomery reached the league championship series last year falling to Birmingham. This is a rematch of last year’s division playoffs that was won by Montgomery.
My prediction Montgomery over Biloxi.
Eastern League
Binghamton Rumble Ponies vs Somerset Patriots
Binghamton won both halves of the Northeast division, while Somerset took the wild card spot.
Altoona Curve vs Erie Seawolves
Erie won the first half while tying Altoona for the second half title. So, we pretty much get a tiebreaker series. The two teams just finished a series this past week to conclude the regular season. Erie is going for a three-eat after winning the Eastern League in 2023 and 2024.
My prediction Erie over Altoona.
Be sure to tune into the action starting tonight to see which teams advance to their league championship series.
