Mid Winter
We end January with a keen South Easterly, bringing chilly air from our friends on the near continent. The whole month has been fantastic for the vernalising of the flower buds on the fruit trees. Being dry for most of the time certainly makes pruning a pleasant job! More Field Fares than for several recent winters are about. Our rabbit population is less than usual. the prunings on the ground being an attraction for the delicate attention mice.
No sign of the blooming daffodils like at the beginning of January 2016!! We have fallen short on rainfall since November but it looks like cosier air from the west will help rectify that during early February.
We still have a few tail end of season apples available.
Top of the present wish list is more cold air please, from the south east, preferably without snow!
