MIAC narrowly avoids free-for-all
The top teams in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference got scares last night, but that’s all they were – scares.
No. 6 St. Thomas (13-2, 4-0 MIAC) needed five sets to get by Bethel (5-9, 0-4). It was UST’s 34th consecutive MIAC win. If you didn’t already know, UST is playing all of its “home” matches at Concordia University while awaiting construction of its new home – the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Building. So long, Schoenecker Arena.
St. Olaf (15-2, 3-1) also needed five against a good Gustavus (8-7, 1-3) squad.
Two other MIAC five-setters last night were St. Mary’s (12-5, 2-2) over Carleton (9-4, 2-2) and St. Kate’s (12-7, 2-2) besting Hamline (9-7, 0-4).
To round things out, No. 17 Concordia (7-4, 3-1) and No. 19 Saint Benedict (13-4, 3-0) both won in four.
