MELYS – When You Put Leonard Cohen On

Melys (English translation:”Sweet”) are a Welsh independent rock band from Betws-y-Coed in Conwy, Wales, formed in 1996. They sing in both English and Welsh. They have recorded eleven sessions for John Peel on BBC Radio 1, came first in his Festive Fifty in 2001 and won Best Welsh-language Act at the Welsh Music Awards in 2002.

I sit stroking your hair, my hears have gone You look so peaceful sleeping Don’t know what’s going on, I’m confused Feeling apprehensive How will I know if it’s me that as hurt you? You don’t like to touch me, you don’t like to talk Can’t make it right if you won’t let me near you Afraid of your silence, 3 am morning walks And I know there is something wrong `Cause you put Leonard Cohen on

Sleep, Sleep away As you do I can cry my heart out Have I let you down? If I did, I’ll try to be more careful

How do you think I will cope here without you? My stomach’s in knots and I’m trembling with fright I’m sorry that I’ve been so Goddamn dependent Panic and fear – I’m a moth without light

And I know there is something wrong When you put Leonard Cohen on
