Medlar update

Sep 10, 2022
1 min read

We won’t be picking our Medlars until early November, unless some frosts start occurring towards the end of October which will advance them, just a little.

They are picked whilst hard and brown – some may just be showing the early signs of bletting. Left too long on the tree and they drop, especially during windy weather!

The purpose of this update is to advise you that, already, we have been asked by so many individual domestic jelly makers and also those of you who actually enjoy eating them as fruit, that it is quite probable that our total crop has been booked – while still on the trees!

Last season was a total failure for Medlars and now everyone’s pantries are empty of Medlar jelly.

We will now open a list for enquirers to register their interest. Should we have a few left over after existing orders have been fulfilled , then you will all be contacted – no promises!

We will be picking Quince fairly soon.
