Measuring Prosperity
“ (Proverbs 11:28)
Wealthy people can be saved, and they can be righteous. We have example of wealthy and righteous saints in Scripture – Abraham, Isaac, Job, David, and Solomon. God doesn’t have anything against the wealth, even though His Son said it is hard for a wealthy person to enter heaven (Matthew 19 :23).
And riches are not bad. If riches were dangerous, God would not encourage saving and “storing up for the winter” and learning from the ant who saved (Proverbs 6:6). God would not teach us about stewardship if money were evil. Money is not evil; the trusting in it is (I Timothy 6:10).
Those who trust in their riches have a false sense of security in their money. And this temptation can even be expressed from those who have little money when they think to themselves, “If I only had a little more, I would be content.” That is the same heart issue – security in riches (I Timothy 6:17-19).
Our identity is not in riches. When we trust in our riches, our faith will turn from Christ. When we trust in riches, our faith is misplaced. This is why Jesus said you cannot love God AND money (Matthew 6:24).
Genuine prosperity is not measured in dollars and cents; it is measured in our daily walking in the Spirit.
