MC LYTE – Noochie’s Live From The Front Porch (2024)

MC Lyte is a pioneering American rapper, DJ, and actress, widely recognized as one of the first female rappers to gain mainstream success in hip-hop. She emerged in the late 1980s with her debut album Lyte as a Rock (1988), which featured the hit single “Paper Thin” and established her as a formidable lyricist. Her sharp, socially conscious lyrics and confident delivery helped pave the way for future generations of female MCs.

Throughout the ’90s, she continued to make an impact with tracks like “Ruffneck” (1993), becoming the first female rapper to be nominated for a Grammy. Beyond music, she has built a successful career in voice-over work, acting, and philanthropy.

MC Lyte is still active, involved in music and entertainment, though she focuses more on business, activism, and mentoring young artists. She runs the Hip Hop Sisters Foundation, which supports education and empowerment for women. She also continues to perform and DJ occasionally while working in television and film.
