May Things 2018
May! It’s green again! School’s out in a few weeks! We don’t have to put on 2 layers of clothing every morning! These are things that have really made my month thus far. Things in the past week that have not made my month, however:
Linus loves to go through my stuff and the borrow my pins to wear on his jean jacket. He also loves to suddenly hate them on a whim and shriek like a monster for me to immediately remove them. This recently happened as I was getting him out of the car to go to preschool, and somewhere between the preschool flailing, running in the street, getting reprimanded for running in the street, throwing a mini tantrum, getting ushered into school, trying to remove coats/change shoes/sign in etc., I lost them. Them, being my Dunkaroos and my Sundrop pins. UGH.

There is a black sedan that used to park next to me at work and usually parks all askew but anyway all that aside, it was parked next to me one day and when I went to leave to go home that evening, the black sedan was gone and I had a huge door ding on my passenger side door. Complete with an ugly streak of black paint. WTF, coworker! I don’ t know who it is and they don’t park next to me anymore (hmmm strange, that) but some day I gonna catch you, buster, so you better look out. I might just… well. Do nothing. But I’ll DEFINITELY give you A Look when you aren’t looking at me, for sure.

In other annoying car news: the other day I was at a work dinner and when I went to leave, someone had parked their car directly behind mine, perpendicular to mine, so there was no way I was leaving. I mean, listen: I get it, there’s not a ton of parking in the skinny little lot, and maybe you’re just running in to pick up food to take home, but COME ON. I know it’s annoying to have to park TOPS HALF A BLOCK AWAY to walk in, but that’s life. She came out a few minutes later, mumbling an apology (maybe? could not really hear her) without making eye contact and finally moved her damned car. Thanks for that, talk about icing on the cake.

I know this has taken me three times as long as your normal human being to discover, but: as of this week I have given up on all of humanity on Facebook. I was such an idealist for awhile there, when our country took a major downturn I thought it was my duty, my Moral Obligation, to stop hiding and finally be open about my politics on social media. Oh ho ho, but silly me. Granted generally I just post an article or re-share without comment, but honestly? All I am doing is posting into an echo chamber, where friends who agree with me respond in kind, and those that disagree just shake their heads and ignore me completely. Who is that helping, really? I don’t need head pats. Meanwhile, I am being driven crazy by the people who post with the distinct intent of telling everyone, even those who agree with them politically, how they are doing it ALL WRONG because they don’t think exactly like them on every last detail. YOU GUYS I CAN’T EVEN. So I’m done. Weaning off the Facebook, the Twitter, sticking to Instagram, nice knowing you, you can show your bitter condescending ass to someone else from now on.

Pretty much. WOOOO BOY WHAT A WEEK IT HAS BEEN. But hey, thankfully there are no photos to immortalize those things for all eternity, instead I have Mother’s Day pictures. Like all my LOOOOOOT, plant babies and homemade cards and doughnuts, what else does a mama need!
(Other than an impromptu song-and-dance performed by two sizes of Brobee, appearing out of nowhere to entertain you while you are simply just trying to have a quiet moment with your doughnuts.)
We don’t call him Mugshot Moose for nothing.
Siiiiiigh, nothing like new plants and pots and the anticipation of getting your nails full of soil. I AM OFFICIALLY MY MOTHER.
We made our usual spring trip to Olbrich. It was… soggy. Really soggy, and overcast and dark, but hey the trees were still green and the flowers were still there. I just wish I had wore more sensible shoes…
Couple-a nuts.
There are nice reflecting pools all around the Thai sala so I got some fun shots there even with the dreary weather.
Reflections reflections reflections…
(Note my beloved Dunkaroos and Sundrop enamel pins in the photo below, womp womp.)
They had a plant sale so I gots me a few more, because: spoiled. They were so cheap, though – I didn’t get the hen and chicks because I always kill them, but those big pots were like $4-$5 apiece. So cheap.
After Olbrich we went for brunch. I had a hard time deciding: Camp Trippalindee? LongTable? Madison Tap?
Also who’s window is this? I want your plants.
Anyway. We ended up going to MintMark, which was vaguely anxiety-filled because they were the only kids in the place (even though they were touting Mothers Day brunch online); we were surrounded by young hip people likely nursing hangovers and not needing LOUD CHILDREN in their faces. But it all went well, no one screaming or threw a fit, mainly because I gave them each a screen to shut them up so Scott and I could enjoy our coffee and brunch in peace. No shame.
The kids got side of saaaaaausage and the lemon curd pancakes. GOOD THING THEY BOTH HATE LEMON CURD EW EW EWWWWW PLEASE GET IT OFF OUR PANCAKES. Instead I just ate the top one off of their stacks.
Hey, don’t worry. They ended up swiping my crispy smashed potatoes to make up for it.
Eggs bennie, get it.
Took a swing through the ‘hood before heading back home to plant Plant PLANT ALL THE THINGS.
Over and out, that’s all I got for now. Have a lovely rest of your May, and a happy Memorial Day weekend to all.
