Hockey is in Marley Webster’s blood. It’s been a part of her identity for as long as she can remember. Fortunately, she doesn’t have to depart from the game she loves anytime soon.

The Trinity High School graduate is committed to Post University where she will continue her college hockey career with the Eagles women’s program. The Division I team competes in the New England Women’s Hockey Alliance and have been competing at the National Collegiate level since 2017.

“After getting to know Coach Silverman and Coach Roethke, I knew Post was the right school for me,” said Webster. “I am extremely grateful to receive such an opportunity from them. It means a lot to be able to play with and against such talented women who share the same goals. I am extremely excited for the future.”

Playing hockey is nothing new for the Webster family as her father played all the way through college. He was also her first coach and was instrumental in her learning the fundamental skills to be successful in the sport. Until her teenage years, she played on co-ed teams until moving to strictly girls hockey.

The Washington County native has also been a longtime member of the Penguins Elite Hockey organization and got her start at the age of 10. Since, she’s played on various teams and been a defensive anchor for teams that have gone on to play at hockey nationals multiple times. Her favorite opportunity to play in nationals came in Pittsburgh in 2022. “I am very fortunate that I got to be a part of such a great program that has helped so many women reach their goals. The Pens provided the best opportunities and chances to be successful.

Webster also made history playing in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League’s inaugural season beginning in 2022. She was a member of the West Pittsburgh team that featured girls from various school districts in the area. Since its first season, there has been an increase in interest and the league will surely continue to be an asset for girls hockey in the region. “It meant a lot to be able to play in the inaugural season of the PIHL girls hockey league. I think it is a great way to create an opportunity for girls of all skill levels to come together to play and have fun. I think it will continue to grow.”

While hockey is a big part of Webster’s life, she has her sights set on a career as a physicians assistant and intends to major in biology at Post. In terms of her specific interest, she believes emergency medicine is the career path that she would like to learn more about.

Two of the interesting aspects about playing in college for Webster is the opportunity to play against some of her Pens Elite teammates and also go through being a college hockey player alongside her boyfriend, Connor Moran, who plays for the Robert Morris University Colonials. “It’s neat to go through this together and navigate similar experiences in the next chapter of our lives. It has been fun getting to train with him this summer. All of his support means a lot and I also couldn’t be more proud of him.”

It’s been a true grind to get to this point in her life. She’s just a few weeks out from moving into her first college dorm and taking the ice for her first college practice. No matter where this hockey journey takes her, she knows it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of many.

“I was very lucky to have so many opportunities presented to me throughout the years due to growing up in Washington County and attending Trinity. My teachers, administration and the athletic personnel at Trinity have been so supportive of this journey and I cannot thank them enough. I would also like to thank my parents, sister, friends, the Pens organization, and Tracy Adams for their endless support throughout my entire journey and this process.”

Waterbury, Connecticut and the 7,000 plus students at Post University awaits Marley Webster. And with that, the possibilities are endless. These years will be some of the toughest, but most fun of her life as she continues to play the sport she loves and work towards a career she’s passionate about.
